    Hi Wayne,
We can't get any info on when Hyundai is going to update the head units on 16 HSH and PHSH's to use CarPlay or Android Auto.

"All 2016 Sonata Hybrids equipped with navigation will also support Pandora and SoundHound applications as well as “Eyes Free” Siri integration plus Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto."

    Hi Tom:

I will speak to the Hyundai Infotainment PR team at the NYIAS on March 23rd. Remind me about this just prior if you could please?

    TIA

I'll remind you too Wayne. This is the only dissapointment in an otherwise great car.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Sales person told me I can order Apple CarPlay on SD card separately for a fee. But not sure he really knew what he was talking about. I don't have an iPhone but not really interested in such a system. The navigation system is just fine and anything more is just distracting I think.

1000 mile on a tank is pretty easy unless you really don't recharge... I got so far about 27-40 mile range out of EV. To get more than 30 mile you need to drive very carefully so most probably will get around EPA.

At this point, this is just a crazy idea. I was wondering if I could attend that little get together on the 23rd. A LOT of confusion out there in the forums (not just CleanMPG) about what is going on with this. I really like what Hyundai has done with the Sonata hybrid and their infotainment. But some things just need to be said to keep their stuff competitive.

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Hi Bob:

The cost would be prohibitive as the NYIAS is in NY City. I will be speaking with the Marketing/PR side of the Infotainment system. They are not there to listen to product enhancements and complaints but should have answers about upgrade timelines.

The android auto and CarPlay software is in the works and being held back because of the free map software that will be included. There is no exact ETA but best guess is Q3 2016.

Thanks but that is a pretty lame excuse as Hyundai has had no problem selling new Nav HSH's with 2 year old maps.

    Hi Wayne,
I'm very sorry that I have given your info to another site without a link but they knew it came from you. I normally link CleanMPG on everything I take from your site and the links do work on Hyundai-Forums. The reason I complained about the reason for the delay in the infotainment on the 2016 HSH is that many new owners were promised it when they first came out many months ago and waiting for a map update seemed unnecessary.

Hoping to continue to be your friend.

I'm not a fan of the for-a-fee NAV map updates. Our C-MAX lets my wife know that she can now get an update. Whoop-de-doo. I just use my 6" Garmin with lifetime updates.

    Hi All:

Not Android Auto but Apple CarPlay news is a start.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Integration Available on Affordable Sedan

Hyundai is adding Apple CarPlay support to new 2016 Sonatas. CarPlay is the smarter, safer and easier way to use an iPhone in the car and gives users the features they want such as Phone, Messages, Music, and Maps, while allowing them to stay focused on the road.

CarPlay delivers an instantly recognizable experience to iPhone users that will help them be instantly familiar and comfortable inside their Sonata. CarPlay support lets drivers make calls, get directions optimized for traffic conditions, listen to music and access messages. With CarPlay, Siri provides drivers an eyes-free experience by responding to requests through voice commands that are easily and directly accessed through the steering wheel’s voice button. Using a Lightning connector, CarPlay works with iPhone 5 and newer models running the iOS 7.1 or higher operating systems.

Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on the 2016 Sonata’s seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen and eight-inch navigation systems, optimizing the consumer experience even further with a larger screen. The CarPlay roster of supported apps can be found at the Apple CarPlay. Android Auto’s app roster can be found at Android Auto.

There will be an announcement about CarPlay support on the 2016 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid at a later date. Hyundai will also have an announcement in the near future related to CarPlay support for existing 2015 Sonatas with navigation, and 2016 Sonatas with Display Audio or navigation. These updates require a specific version of the on-board navigation map and Hyundai is developing a solution, which will provide both the map update and CarPlay support at no additional cost. When the CarPlay update becomes available customers can be notified by providing their contact information at Hyundai Integration.

    Display Audio

Hyundai’s Display Audio system features a high-resolution seven-inch color touch-screen display optimized specifically for smartphone integrations and Blue Link. In addition, Display Audio incorporates Hyundai’s latest and most innovative in-vehicle technology by offering a simple, multi-use home screen, HD Radio® capability, mixed AM, FM and SiriusXM presets, along with Pandora-link integration.

    Additional Features:

Integration with Apple’s Siri-powered “Eyes Free” mode
    • Functionality allows owners of compatible vehicles to use the voice command button on the steering wheel to ask Siri questions without taking their eyes off the road
    • Siri Eyes Free supports making calls, selecting and playing music, composing and reading back text messages, using Maps and getting directions, reading notifications, finding calendar information, and adding reminders, among other functions
    • Integration with Google’s voice actions and predictive Google Now functionality through Android Auto
    • Functionality allows owners of compatible vehicles to find destinations in Google Maps, set appointment reminders, make and receive calls, respond to text messages with intuitive voice commands, and more
    • Pandora integration
    • SiriusXM Satellite Radio with enhanced features
    • Pause, back and play for current station
    • Automatic recording of top six presets
    • SiriusXM Travel Link
    • Sports scores and schedules, stock ticker, movie times, fuel prices and weather/alerts
    • Advanced voice recognition
    • Multi-touch screen that supports swipe and wipe gestures
    • New home screen with multiple functions
Display Audio combines the best of phone-based connectivity technologies with Blue Link. Blue Link provides a full suite of safety and diagnostic features, as well as features that are only possible with an embedded connected car system, such as remote engine start, stolen vehicle recovery and remote door lock/unlock.

    8" NAVI

Hyundai’s eight-inch navigation system offers an enhanced display and home screen that shows map and music information, regardless of the music source. The Blue Link Guidance package (three-month trial included) works with Hyundai’s on-board navigation system by providing Destination Search, powered by Google™, as well as POI Web Search and Download to help you get to your destinations via your connected car. Owners can make the most of Blue Link with the ability to send searched locations to their car’s navigation system.

    Hyundai BLUE LINK

Blue Link brings seamless connectivity directly into the car with technology like Remote Start with Climate Control, a Monthly Vehicle Health Report, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Car Finder and Stolen Vehicle Recovery. Remote features can be accessed via Hyundai’s smartphone app or Web portal. Blue Link also features maintenance alerts and safety features, such as Automatic Collision Notification and SOS. The Blue Link system uses a 4G connection. The Blue Link Connected Care package includes safety and diagnostic features and is standard for one year on equipped models.

    Hi All:

I have a ton more on this beauty but for now, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has great leg/knee room front to back for this 6' frame.

What the heck is the 16 ‪‎Hyundai‬ ‪‎Sonata‬ Hybrid‬ doing out in the middle of the night?

Must be time to complete the steady states. I had to wait until almost 02:00 for calm winds. Now it's time to go to work.
