    Hi Brandon:

Someday but try to let someday turn into never.

Tom, she did excellent and please keep in touch. I drove a "special" 12 (or maybe later ;)) HSH this week that I am NDA'ed to discuss until this fall but when it arrives, you may be receiving a flash for a very good reason. Think of it as a high draft choice or “Player to be named later” possible addition to your own stable while keeping with the theme of this trip.

The Elantra GT climbing out of San Diego on the I-8 on its way to its first stop in Phoenix, AZ.

While I missed the Dodger’s Game due to the 4-hour traffic heading into LA the other day, the Tour is once again on the road. The only difference being I had to turn in the Sonata Hybrid and am now in a 2013 Elantra GT 5-door hatch. Is this trip the bomb or what :)

In any case, I am going to try and get to the Diamondbacks hosting my Cubs in downtown Phoenix tonight for possibly the last one before topping off and hitting the road back to Chicago later this coming weekend.

I left the HSH with the STI press fleet handlers at 50.5 mpg with 500 + miles on it and half of that being San Diego errand runs including my hotel to Elantra launch hotel and back a number of times.

The new arrival is going to be just as fun other than its going to be a very warm ride in the GT while I push for even better FE…

    Hi All:

Given traffic and inability to wrap up the Great American Road Trip with the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in LA, I completed it in Phoenix, AZ with the Arizona Diamondbacks hosting the hapless but beloved Chicago Cubs.

Diamondbacks game – Just outside Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ

Diamondbacks game - $25 for $40 tickets - $28 for snacks, dogs and a soda. I parked in a garage about three blocks from the stadium for $10.
I signed up for a $50 test drive and received some free cheap UV glasses. Three free Tacos with the purchase of a large drink at Taco Bell between
04:00 and 06:00 PM tomorrow because the DBacks scored 6 runs and a free drink from any Circle K with a coupon certificate just because I guess

The Diamondbacks ended up taking the game while burying the Cubs 6 to 1 at Chase Field. More in the video maybe tomorrow but this then is close to the end of our All-American Road Trip… I still have a few things planned but we’ll see how they turn out before I add much more.

Coming to you from Phoenix AZ and thanks as always for following this little adventure in one and then a second fantastic Hyundai automobile ;)

I'm still giddy from the Cubs taking two out of three from the White Sox. That makes up for the worst record in the majors. Almost.

$1.50 for a Hot Dog or Corn Dog-not bad!

Yeah , I saw those prices and I thought I was back in Mayberry in 1966 !

    Hi Edwin:

Maybe the Cubs need to move to one of these Multi $Billion dollar stadiums in the suburbs and they will have to win to fill it? Wrigley makes it to easy to keep 30+ k fans entertained with sub quality product for the past 100 + years :( Yeah, I am ranting here :ccry:

Charlie, that is exactly what I thought when I saw the menu item prices posted. So much so I had to take a pic or nobody would have believed me! The dog was a full sized but the Pepsi was maybe an 8 to 10 oz. Still enough and for $1.50 not bad imho when most parks charge $4 to $6 for a little bit more. I thought it was a nice deal for Dback fans.

Now about the seats in Chase Field. Not good for those in the upper reserve. No knee room and the park itself did not feel very fan oriented. Vast layout of seats before a tier so even those on the field could be as much as 200' from the action.

Edwin, welcome to Mayberry RFD :)

    Hi Wayne,
I will be following your trip in that beautiful Blue (love the color) Elantra GT. Looks like the competition is going to have a hard time keeping up. The trip down the hill from Julian this year in our HSH 4,000-200 feet going 66 miles showed 61.2 mpg. May you have the wind at your back and have many long glides on yor trip.

    Have a safe journey

    Hi Tom:

While I cannot speak about any impressions and such of the Elantra GT, hopefully there are enough pics of the various “features” to give readers a good feel for this “Hot hatch” without me breaking the embargo ;)

I was driving a blue GT with an AT for the short lead and am driving a silver GT with a stick for the drive home.

    And thanks for the wishes!

If the Diamondbacks score 6 or more in any home game, Taco Bell provides anyone in the Valley 3 free taco's with purchase of large drink (<2.00 each)

I am at my in-laws here in Phoenix tonight and brought home dinner for just $8.26 including tax ;)

The game that keeps on giving.

    Hi Chris:

If you lived anywhere near Phoenix, you could visit Taco "Hell" again as the Diamondbacks just took out the Cubs 10 to 5. To bad I was not staying another day... Or maybe I will just for the free Taco's ;)

    Hi All:

The Hyundai Short Lead tank finally ran out (not quite but within a gallon or two from empty) so its all mine from here on out. I filled in Flagstaff, AZ and am headed to Mount Evans just outside of Idaho Springs, Colorado a few miles west of Denver.

From the Flagstaff station to Kayenta, AZ McDonald’s where I am typing this up and setting up the photos, Google Maps shows Flagstaff Sinclair to McDonald’s In Kayenta, AZ to be 147 miles. The Elantra GT shows just 140.7 miles for a 4.3% under report with plenty of advanced techniques thrown in for good measure…

Notice anything different about this one??? Let us just say I was driving a vehicle not available to the public yet and he probably was too given the plates and extra graphics.

Kayenta AZ – uncalibrated SG-II at 88.3 mpg, Trip A/B = 140.7 miles (147 miles actual per Google Maps) and 94 degrees F.

And why the SG-II? Because for 2013, the Elantra GT updates the Trip A/B and Odometer but does not update the aFCD :(

So with a 1,200’ elevation drop over 147 miles, the Elantra is pulling somewhere between 80 and 88 mpg more than likely. Not bad for the first segment with a lot more miles to go :(

Once I leave this McDonald’s, it’s a quick trip through a portion Monument Valley and than on towards Mount Evans and its 14,235’ summit with the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT on its All-American Road Trip.

    Hi All:

The laptop is down to 11% and its warning me so I had better eat my (2) Side Salads, plug my laptop into the inverter in the Elantra GT and hit the road.

Temps for the above began at 80 degrees F in Flagstaff with a high of 100 in Tuba City and its 94 in Kayenta as I type this last post. I had quartering rear to side winds all the way with speeds of calm to 15 mph or thereabouts.

Pretty hot little car for being fully loaded with everything except for NAVI and Push Button Start.

It looks like rain in Monument Valley so the numbers will probably fall quickly if that happens :(

So how do you reset the aFCD ? Independently of either trip A or B ?

  15. MaxxMPG

MaxxMPG Hasta Lavista AAA-Vee Von't Be Bach

    Rich,
On the GT, the aFCD won't update in a FAS. The trip A/B will accumulate miles, but the aFCD in the dash remains at its previous value and does not reflect overall trip mpg when FAS is used.

The aFCD can be reset via steering wheel mounted buttons to reset to 0 after a fill, though. In most current Hyundai models, the aFCD resets to 0 when you add more than 1.6 gallons of fuel to the tank, so the aFCD at any given time is a tank average and not lifetime FE.

    Hi All:

Whewww, what a drive. I am typing away at a McDonald’s in Grand Junction, CO. The 2013 Elantra GT’s Trip A/B is showing 410.1 miles with Google Maps showing 432 miles covered for a 5.1% under report when going advanced.

While some days are simply tougher at the office than others, the vistas yesterday were out of this world!!!

Passing through Mexican Hat is was 100 degrees again … but it’s a dry heat  Fortunately is was in the low 70’s in Grand Junction so we are good for another day of travel. This time to Mount Evans in Colorado… I hope???

If you have a car long term, Fuelly is an acceptable substitute for lifetime mileage. Having come from a VW, one thing I'd desperately like to see on my HSH is a digital instantaneous gauge, a short term segment economy readout, and a long term (tank, or whatever) average. You can go up to 9999 miles before it resets on VW.

    Hi Thunderstruck:

I only have this car for another week + so the CleanMPG mileage logs are acceptable for this.

Yea, I just meant it shouldn't be a concern for prospective buyers.
