Does anyone know how much it costs to add the Plug-in capabilty to a gen III (2010 plus) and how far you can go on a charge with it?

That will depend upon what capabilities you are looking for. The are several conversion companies out there and you can also go the Enginer kit route.

Are you going to be restricting yourself to lower speeds? I know there is one company that offers some reprogramming of the second gen model which will allow highway speeds in EV mode (by putting the car into a WS type mode using electricity to spin the engine so that the MGSet doesn't exceed its rated max RPM) but you definitely pay extra for that capability.

I could restrict myself to lower speeds as I would want to use EV mode for mostly nearby travel. I know the new PIP restricts the speed to 62, but I could stay under approx. 40 mph or so. :woot:
