At the upcoming 2012 Geneva Auto Show, BMW will be presenting several new sustainable production and concept vehicles that are expected to change the way we drive. In its charge to lead the industry in design, performance and more importantly continually improving its products to reduce fuel consumption and limit exhaust emissions, BMW is pulling out all the stops. At least in some segments and in Europe in particular The improved yet again BMW 116d EfficientDynamics The new front runner of the BMW lineup in terms of liquid fueled efficiency will be in the spotlight at the 2012 International Auto Show in Geneva. The BMW 116d EfficientDynamics is powered by a 116 HP turbo diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. It does the 60 dance in 10.5 seconds and its combined average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 61.9 mpgUS or as high as 51 mpgUS combined on our own EPA! The BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition sets another milestone in the continuous reduction of fuel consumption while still providing all that a BMW has in the past. Quiet luxury with driving confidence that can only be found in vehicles coasting far more $’s. And of course this model is not planned for sale in the USA or Canada. BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concepts BMW’s latest and greatest concepts will be provided a venue to show off the company’s latest development strategy for sustainable mobility with the i. The BMW i3 Concept and the BMW i8 Concept provide insights into the models currently undergoing development for serial production. The BMW i3 will come off the production line at the BMW plant in Leipzig in early as 2013 as the first electrically powered premium luxury vehicle in the world. Or the Tesla Model S, whichever comes first The production start of the PHEV drive BMW i8 is due to follow in early 2014. An improved super diesel and of course the two electrified i’s make for one hell of a stage presence and especially if you are one of BMW’s competitors.
