Mercedes-Benz August Sales Up 1.3%

    smart fortwo - In July smart was re-integrated into Mercedes-Benz USA but it hasn't improved it's fortunes so far. The smart is an efficient car, but after an initial burst of enthusiastic sales when it was introduced, sales have dwindled as consumers eschewed the microcar. With the increased array of efficient subcompacts and compacts now available it can only get tougher.

    Mercedes-Benz USA reported August sales of 20,728 vehicles, a 5.4% improvement over August 2010 (19,674) and the company’s highest August volume since 2007. On a year-to-date basis, the 159,814 vehicles sold represent a 10.5% increase over the 144,689 vehicles sold over the same period last year.

    Mercedes-Benz Cars

    The 9th generation E-Class led Mercedes-Benz with sales of 5,628, down 4.3% compared to August 2010.

    The C-Class, which attracts younger and first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers, posted 4,728 sales, down 22.5% compared to August 2010.

    The new CLS-Class posted 765 sales, up from 84 last year. The new SLK roadster posted 136 sales, up 138.6% compared to August 2010.

    Sales of diesels were up 14.7% to 851.

    Sales of the high-end S class were up 17.9% to 981 and 32 SLS AMG supercars were sold.

    Sprinter Vans

    Sales of Sprinter Vans increased by 117.7% for August with sales of 1,846 – bringing a year-to-date total of 10,673 (up 121.3 %).

    smart

    Sales of the smart fortwo totaled 405 vehicles for the month, down from 1,622 last year.

    11. Mazda August Sales up 10.2% with 22,632 vehicles sold.
    12. Subaru August Sales down 9.9% with 20,837 vehicles sold.
    13. Mercedes-Benz August Sales up 1.3% with 20,728 vehicles sold.
    14. Audi August Sales up 6.8% with 10,201 vehicles sold.
