    Hi Mike S'(s) and Brandon:

It sounds like Focus and the Pacific II-1 and IV-2.

Mike Sefton, I have not published the photo of the F&R Seating position for the Focus from the LA Auto Show Press Event yet but it follows the above. 11 Elantra has the most rear seat room with the 12 Focus just behind. The Cruze is not even in the running when it comes to rear seat passengers.

About the 12 Focus’ Torque vectoring control, good god can this thing stick to the pavement in hard turns. Even when you breached the limits of the very sticky, large and low profile Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s, you can feel the inside wheels braking trying to bring you back on your intended path and it works! I have yet to take a 90 degree turn hard enough to break the car completely loose. I am currently at an Arby’s in Huntington Beach and there is a large and empty mall about 3-blocks away that I am going to hit after I leave here. I hope I do not get arrested ;) That said, while the 12 Focus may be to heavy for taking on all comers in an Autocross, there are few cars in the C-Segment that are going to turn with it. Maybe the 11 Mazda3 but I bet it would be close with that torque vectoring control scheme giving the 12 Focus the advantage.

Saying all of that, the turning radius of the 12 Focus seems a bit large. There is no manual and few tech specs currently available but I will ask if Ford has a pdf version I can read.

Also, the Hands Free controls on the steering wheel has a two (actually four) position activation/rocker like switch. The top has a star with a 1 and the bottom of the same rocker has a 2 with a star. While I am not sure yet, I can bet SYNC w/ MyFord’s Touch can sync with two phones at the same time. I am guessing as to what the two actually do as I do not have a manual.

The Sony system Subwoofer is in the trunk as expected and the Focus has a spare vs. a can of tire prayer spray.

Another thing I really like. Instead of a manual dimmer or one of those mirrors with the bottom panel with controls and dimmer eye control, there is a small round rear looking sensor “In The Mirror” that detects if it needs to be dimmed. I have not seen this before and I really like it. There is also a forward looking something or another (it looks like a forward looking camera inside a plastic housing/mount attached to the rear view mirror mount but I am not sure what it is yet either???

The Glove box has very little room for anything of size. I cannot place my Verizon 5-spot box or the smallish Inverter plastic container in it and get it to close? I will have a good look at that tomorrow as well? There are a lot of other holders around the car but I have not had the time to really use them after my lengthy drive after getting into the car after 08:30 PM and taking on an over 200 mile drive last night.

Tomorrow evening before turning it in at LAX, I will try and go over everything with a fine tooth comb and write up the minutia in my review notepad.

Time to go have some fun in a parking lot in Huntington Beach, CA.

Wayne, my wife's FFH syncs with both our phones -- but only one can be the primary at a time (ie, they can't both be connected at the same time).

Wayne, is this forward facing camera attached to the rear view mirror in contact with the windshield? I wonder if it is a rain sensor if the car is equipped with rain sensing wipers.

Agree. Malibu and the ship in the distance help it.

Might be possible to play with the colors a little to lose some of the haze, too.

    Hi All:

INATM, pic IV is getting the most votes ;) I will use it for the review leadoff.

Sean, I read a prototype manual and it did not mention the two phone solution. It did not mention the SONY system either but had over 70 pages on SYNCH and Radio controls and features. And it said read the supplementary manual on SYNC and My FordTouch which was not with the prototype.

I have close-ups of the 4-way Bluetooth phone toggle and the 4-way CC function toggles I will get up in a minute if I do not run out of power or they call for boarding before I get it up ;)

ALS, another for pic IV. It’s a landslide!

Mike, the additional HW was indeed for the rain sensing wipers which this fully loaded Titanium trimmed 2012 Focus came with. About the only things it did not have was a sun roof and the Auto Park Assist which I really wanted to try!

Rich, I will work on the raw photo a bit to punch it up later this week. Mike Sirach and I have a Hyundai dinner possibly tomorrow night, the Chicago Auto Show the next two days and wraps for all of it through the weekend.

Ford’s NAVI with Lane Assist Live displayed. Very very nice!

While I took this pic in strong light out the front, on the fly and just kind of snapped the thing blind, at least you have an idea as to how good the Ford NAVI really is. The Lane Assist is showing three different roads and lanes to be in while on the road. Easy to see, understand and take action on vs. most portables and most OEM NAVI’s w/out Lane assist.

    Hi All:

A Video Crew I was with at Hyundai HQ in Fountain Valley, CA earlier today. What the heck does that have to do with the Focus? Ahh, not much and never you mind ;)

Poor shot of the Chinese Theater but the Beverly Hills entry way pic looked nice at least. It was rush hour and everyone in the area was wondering what this nut was doing standing in the middle of the intersection waiting for cars to clear to snap a pic of an illegally parked car ;)

    Hanger Hooks – FAIL!

Rear Seat plastic hanger hooks on both sides were not nearly deep enough to hold even a single hanger no matter if it was a small diameter metal or large diameter plastic Hanger. My wardrobe of dress clothes on both sides fell off with even the slightest turn :(

Rear View Mirror – Auto Dimming Sensor.

Taking pics of a mirror in poor parking garage light is tough. In any case, the sensor is located within the mirror itself and looks to be another one of those “think outside the box” that the 2012 Ford Focus Titanium is loaded with.

Focus Sedan w/ its rear seats folded down. They do not fold flat but the feature provides additional utility for longer or simply more cargo items. I placed the headrests on the seat backs for convenience. The Sony system Sub is on the right.

The Sedan incorporates a trunk storage compartmentalized tray and spare underneath the trunk tray.

    Hi All:

    A few more details…

While the manual in the car was a prototype (it had pics of Fiesta stuff in it in fact ;)), I did garner a number of items from it.
    • Flat tow restrictions: Maximum 35 mph and no more than 50 miles
    • 4.5 quarts of 5W-20 is spec’ed
    • Both the AT and MT are spec’ed for 1.9 quarts
    • Engine coolant – 5.3 quarts.
    • Fuel tank cap – 12.4 gallons
    • Compression ratio which we have reported a number of times is 12.0:1
    • Engine Oil Change interval is 10,000 miles.
There were no dimensional specs listed in the manual unfortunately.

I was stopped at a light on a steep incline as I was about to climb over the I-405 yesterday. I released the brake and the car did not roll back so Hill Start Assist was included. I hope it is included with all trims but I am not sure if it is or not?

And like all recent 2011’s and 12’s, to receive the 5* crash test ratings including the new roof crush strength test, the A, B and C-Pillar’s are wide and obscure your vision around the vehicle. Add to it, the sedan’s high sill is tough to see over making backing out an anxiety builder.

Parking Lot – Max handling test. When she does break loose beyond both the torque vectoring control and the Michelin Pilot Sport3’s ability to hold, there is quite a bit of understeer. To get to that point however, you are in “Vomit Comet” territory ;)

FE… While we were provided the least fuel efficient model with the Optional 18” Sport wheels, sport tires, 6-speed dual-clutch AT and Push Button Start/Stop that limited what we could and could not do as described above, the measured 10/90% city/highway driving portion provided a touch over 50 mpg actual vs. the 47.0 aFCD.

Along with 185 miles of actual measured FE, the Focus’ Trip B showed a paltry 43.0 mpgUS (~ 46 mpgUS actual) after 495 miles which came out to be an ~ 50/50 city/highway split. This also incorporated the Pacific Coast Highway stint almost to Ventura and back plus a very tough inner city run driving the 405 into LA at rush hour, through Hollywood, up into Beverly Hills on Sunset Blvd. and back out to LAX provided. While 45 + from a 32 to 33 mpg car would seem like a very good showing given the Rush Hour slogs and deep inner city drives, I was expecting much better. The far more basic stick would have surely provided the extra 10 to 15 mpgUS I had originally thought the 2012 Ford Focus was capable of but with its demise well before we had our chance with it, we will have to wait for another opportunity to “try her out” at some future point in time. And yes, the request is in :)

All told, the 2012 Ford Focus “Outclasses the Class Leaders.” Namely the number one and two best selling C-Segment cars in the United States in the form of the current gen Corolla and Civic. The all-new 2012 Ford Focus wins by such a significant margin in the fuel economy department (when up against a similarly AT equipped competitor), handling by a long margin, high tech feature inclusion by an even larger margin and interior/exterior appearance that simply makes driving a brand new 11 Corolla or Civic a huge mistake.

And then there is the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. My time in the top of the line Cruze was limited to just 10-miles and while it is worthy of a thorough comparison, I felt the new 2012 Focus just had more from the drivers perspective. Power, handling, external appearance and a more robust and future proof daily drive. That said, the 11 Cruze is worthy of a very good looking over.

And then the 2011 Hyundai Elantra… We’ll do more on that when we get the opportunity to drive it.

    Hi All:

I did not correct one of the misstatements posted above regarding the glove box. While I could not fit even a small box (my Verizon WiFi hot spot) into the glove box originally, when taking the last sets of pics and reading the manual, I discovered that the storage area goes much deeper so I was inadvertently closing the glove box with my “stuff” sitting on the door. Once I pushed everything well back and into the compartment, everything fit like it was supposed to.

And while we reported the SFE packages FE last week (2012 Ford Focus “SFE” – Officially a 40 mpg Highway Car) , Dave Thomas of Cars.com posted the following via twitter just a few minutes ago:
