Hello to all MiHG members and friends,

We might all be deluded by this beautiful autumn weather thinking that winter may not arrive this year. But if you’ve lived in the area, you all know that it will be coming and we need to review our cold weather driving techniques. I’m sure that will be a topic in our round robin session at the beginning of this Meet. So we hope that you’ll pick your top winter driving tip to share with attending members that are eager to pick up some new techniques.

With the cold weather in mind, this is a reminder about our MiHG, Chicago Prius Group and Madison Hybrid Group annual EBH (Electric Block Heater) Install Party. It will be held at Tom Brunka’s Garage on Saturday, November 6th in Milwaukee from 9 AM until finished with Wayne Mitchell and Ken Keuler performing the installs. We will have Toyota OEM EBH’s on hand for sale and would seriously encourage all MiHG members to consider having EBH’s on their vehicles. We need some volunteers to assist the installers so if you are interested in an install or with helping out, please send me an email.

We’ll have one main segment at this October Meet and it will be timely and informative as EV’s (Electric Vehicles) are reaching the public. Planning Team member Wayne Gerdes will do a presentation on the new 2011 Nissan Leaf including his impressions based on his test drive of the vehicle. He will also give his feedback on his recent record breaking drive with the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, achieving 56.7 mpg in an EPA rated 29 mpg combined vehicle.

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet. We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin check-in and our VTP’s (Vehicle Tire Pressures) at that time. At 10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to begin our introduction round robin. We’ll have a short session and then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:00 pm. After our potluck lunch, we’ll begin our Drive $mart sessions about 12:30 pm and begin cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious, with the understanding that the agenda usually does not follow the timeline.
