    Hi to all MiHG members and friends,

    Believe it or not, it has been 40 years since our own Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson had a dream about a national day of observance of environmental problems. He proposed a day of nationwide environmental protest to thrust the environment onto the national agenda. “Rising concern about the environmental crisis is sweeping the nation’s campuses with an intensity that may be on its way to eclipsing student discontent over Vietnam… a national day of observance of environmental problems…with a nationwide ‘teach-in’…” is how the office of Senator Nelson framed the world’s first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. It was with this intensity of purpose that the first Earth Day was born.

    Senator Nelson’s dream has certainly come a long way since then. The concern with the environment and the environmental issues facing the world today are even more challenging than those in 1969. If we only could have sustained those concerns over these 40 years, we may be in a better place today. As Earth Day has become a mainstream event involving more than just students, we will continue the dialogue on the care of our only true home, Earth.

    In that light, the MiHG will be participating at six different Earth Day events from Saturday, April 17th through Saturday May 1st. We are looking for as many MiHG members or friends who can join us for part of the day at an event that’s near your home. We will have at least one MiHG Planning Team members at each site, but since each event will include a hybrid vehicle display and a meet and greet, any MiHG member can come, show their ride and share their excitement and experience about their vehicle.

    - Saturday April 17 at the Outpost Natural Outpost in Wauwatosa from 10 to 2. We will have vehicles on display as well as table space;

    - Wednesday April 21 at the Franklin Public Library from 10 to 7. This will be a static display with the potential for a short talk in late afternoon or early evening.

    - Friday April 23 at the Green Vehicles Workshop. This will be a static display with speaking potential on Friday from 8 to 4 at MATC Downtown Campus and a static display. Identify yourself as a MiHG member and you will save $15 off the $25 admission fee which includes a breakfast and lunch.

    - Saturday April 24 we will be coordinating our MiHG 2nd Pump Your Ride to $avings outreach on from 10-2 at the MATC South Campus as part of the Green Vehicle Fair. Our PYR$ is an exciting opportunity but we need some MiHG coordinators are to help the MATC students. If you missed our first PYR$ who should be part of our second. This is free and open to the public.

    - Saturday April 24 at the Greener Oconomowoc Earth Day Fair from 11-3. This will be a display of vehicles and table space.

    - Saturday May 1 at the Spring Green Fair at Alverno College from 9-5. This is a first year event for Alverno and this may be display vehicles, table space with talk potential

    The MiHG has built a reputation for reliable information on hybrid technology as well as a proven record of teaching drivers how to achieve 10 -20 % in fuel savings with the Drive$mart Program. We’d like to have a good showing of our members at each event so we can continue to help spread the news about the MiHG and its mission to the SE Wisconsin communities. All we need is your enthusiasm and experience about your hybrid vehicle or your excitement on how much you’re saving on your fuel costs.

    If you can join us at any event, please email me and let me know which one you can attend. I will need to know by Tuesday April 20 or sooner, so I can inform the various event organizers how many MiHG members will be attending and our PT members can plan ahead. Choose your event that may be close to home and I’ll send additional details to that event.

    Thank you for your continued support of your MiHG…
