bradlee Drive Less When You can - Drive $mart When You Do

Hello to all MiHG members and friends,

We have a lot to be thankful for as we end 2009. Many of you have become $marter drivers since the beginning of 2009. By attending our Meets and picking up tips by some of the best drivers in the world, you’ve taken the baby steps to change your life long driving habits and you’ve become a safer, less stressed driver. You have also become part of the solution to lower our dependence on foreign oil and have helped mitigate global warming by lowering your tailpipe emissions. You’ve done all these things and saved hundreds of dollars as well all by taking the time to spend a Saturday morning, once every two months with your friends of the MiHG. Thank you for taking personal ownership in how and what you drive and for sharing your journey with others.

With that in mind, this last Meet of 2009 will feature a segment called “The End of the Year Free for All”. We hope to take the extra time that we usually don’t have at other Meets to exchange ideas, ask questions, and seek answers on any subject that is important to you. It could be on transportation issues, specific vehicle questions on equipment or accessories, cold weather/warm weather driving tips, what’s coming up the driveway or even broader environmental issues. We could also discuss the direction that you would like to see the MiHG go in 2010. This segment will allow each one of us to be the teacher and the student as we learn from each other.

The other segment will feature MIHG Planning Team member, Clean MPG founder and world class driver Wayne Gerdes with his impressions of the recent “The Los Angeles Auto Show”. Wayne’s inside contacts and broad range of knowledge will offer an interesting take on what’s coming up the driveway and what’s for real and what is not with recent transportation trends. Be prepared to hear things that may not have even hit the local press yet on what 2010 will bring to the motoring public as Wayne shares his insight on the future.

One last bit of information. Our MiHG has again been invited to participate in the 2010 Greater Milwaukee Auto Show. This will be our fourth straight year at the MAS and is our biggest opportunity to talk with the public and recruit members into our MiHG. So mark your calendars with the dates of February 20-28 at the Midwest Airline Center. As great as this event is for our MiHG, it does take a lot of volunteers as well. So gear up and get ready for a time of your life as you share your knowledge to a public looking for answers to their transportation needs.

And now, finally, the specifics of this last MiHG Meet of 2009:

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet. We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin check-in and our VTP’s (Vehicle Tire Pressures) at that time. At 10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to begin our introduction round robin. We’ll have a short session and then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:00 pm. After our potluck lunch, we’ll begin our Drive $mart sessions about 12:30 pm and begin cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious, with the understanding that the agenda usually does not follow the timeline.
