Tire Valves Changed?

I've been happily using my bicycle pump for years to keep my tires at a good pressure. Now with two new cars I suddenly find my pump no longer is compatible with the tire valves. I can't pump any air in them. What's up - have the manufacturers changed the valve stems??!! I have an '07 VW GTI and a 2009 Jeep Compass, both with tire monitoring systems.

No, there hasn't been a change - at least not in the standard.

What sort of problems are you having? Does the chuck not fit onto the valve? You should be aware that these come in sizes and bicycles use the smallest size.

Does the chuck fit over the valve but doesn't engage the plunger to open the valve? The use of TPMS's has forced some manufacturers to have the valve sit lower in the tube so it doesn't accidentally engage. This is within the range of acceptable values (according to the standard), but on the lower end. Perhaps this is what you are experiencing.
