My very nice wife. Best lady you ever met who as only wrecked her 7th or 8th car in the last 18 years is not hurt. She is very smart. Found a husband that keeps her in new cars got a update on the HCHII.

It's fubar,,, BUT the CVT looks great. :) I'm fighting for a total. See'ing I did buy the car right and did it right not using anybody's socialist base tax system. Or the new American battle cry " were is my hand out,,,, I'm stupid and can't get a deal on a car with out your help " Best I've done on repair is all Honda OEM and traceable parts cost. If the wreck had been somebody eles's fault I would have looked into a cash settlement to off set the value hit. Still have not got the bottom line on the car. Have been told it's bent to hell and never will be right again....

OOOOO well,,, you know were to find the pic's. And know I did not use my new modd'ed pistol on her or the car.... :p:p

    Sorry about the wreck, Jeff.

This might be the perfect opportunity to give her a clinic.

Chuck she has been clinched to death.

She is more of a weapon than a drunk. OOOOO I did not say that,,, sorry Im suppose to kiss her ass. and hate drunks.... It's is drunks we hate right? Was just another wreck right? a sober person. yeah know,,, those that don't count. If history is any use of a DB and the state or I don't yank her DL. I bet she will wreck the HCHII 2.25 mor times in 4 years.

And yeah know I CAN'T LET THIS GO!!!! To the folks that have deleted my past post concerning this soap box of a driving wife in my life. Yeah,,, Yep and so on. I'm very hard on her. yes the name calling and descriptive words I used were true. and i stand behind them 100%,,,, 100%,,,, When any of you walk in my shoes concerning this issue, dealing with the fear of the phone call step up and slap me. Yeah know back when I was a wide person at a young age I had no idea what the fear was my parents lived with waiting for the phone call. While to many,,, I'm still wild,,, but nothing like my youth. Everybody that loves my wife are sick of waiting on the call. The wait for the call has been all of her adult life. When you can consule me on at last count 8 cars wrecked in 18 years, two totaled and the other 6 cars put through multi sheet metal mishaps call me and please explain it all. While your qat it please explain to me why one should take the high road concerning the issue. but please understand. I won't play the candy arse games nor the political correct game. I've been there and done that with my first wife who was bi-polar, manic and multi personality's. Nice do gooders over all don't carry much weight with me. because of them I lived years with my crazy first wife and no answers because she signed a private paper. So remember,,,, I don't do the private thing. and if you think drunks are bad,,, ride with my sober wife.....

PM me if you want a number to tell me how the cabbage should be cut.....

Sorry to hear about the crash, but I'm glad she wasn't seriously hurt.

From your description of her track record, she has a serious driving problem. Have you considered enrolling her in a driving school? There are many professional driving schools that offer safe-driving courses for drivers of all ages. I think AAA has a list of schools they have inspected or accredited. Bondurant and Skip Barber are some of the oldest schools and are well-respected by many driving professionals.

The benefits of a school vs do it yourself are the instructor is emotionally detached (unlike a spouse), the instructor can probably drive better than most of us and he or she is well-trained to teach this skill. I know I'm terrible at teaching my wife how to drive better or use less gas; I end up just making her feel bad. :(

I hope your wife acknowledges the need to improve her driving skills and is willing to make the investment to improve. If she doesn't think this is a serious problem, you may need to do an "intervention" with your family. So many years of dreading "the phone call" point to a serious problem. The cost of damage both in terms of money and emotion can be very high if she continues this pattern.

    Best wishes.

Some folks just aren't wired for jobs like driving. You pretty much have to concentrate 100% of the time, and one small error means injury or death-or at least a pile of $$$.

Maybe she has some problem- no depth perception etc. A fair number of folks are born without depth perception. They tend to get in car wrecks, hit curbs, ding wheel rim, can't parallel park very well,, spill things when pouring them, knock things over etc.

Of course, some folks just don't seem to be able to concentrate well enough to drive, so they should limit their driving, or get a very rich mate.

Hey, it could be worse-you could still be married to wife #1 !!
    Just kidding,

Talked with the body shop today. The car is at $7k and climbing like a moon shot rocket. It went to a Honda dealer today to have the hybrid battery pack removed and other components so some of the hidden wrinkled metal not seen at the accident can be welded and cut on. All parts will be Honda OEM. <<<< About the best news I've heard all week. The car will be in the body shop until at least the middle of November. Maybe longer.

I will be at the office Friday. Then back on the road next Monday. So I don't know when I will have a chance to inspect the carnage for my self with it's skin peeled back. It sounds like the engine and front suspension has to come out to properly repair some of the monocoupe ACE cabin structure.

What a mess,,, the car is junk. It will never be right again.

    The wife is fine.

    And so it goes.

    Hi Jeff:

___It sounds like things are moving forward and in a good direction compared to two weeks ago. Keep the updates coming and in no time at all you will have an HCH-II that is better than ever :)

    ___Good Luck

I wonder if Enginer has a kit for the HCH. It would be pretty sweet to have that installed at the same time.

You are NOT alone. I take driving very seriously, I don't even like for my wife
to touch me when I'm driving. She, however, drives by "the Force". You know, like Star Wars "Use the Force, Luke". She has never cleaned a windshield in her life, she doesn't need to see out the window! During a bit of an argument some years ago, I said something like there wasn't a square foot of her van that didn't have a dent or scrape on it. She said that was VERY unfair. So, we went out and looked, and she had to admit it was almost true, there was one area slightly over a square foot that appeared to be unscarred, but only one. And, this was a 15-passenger stretch-extended van, 22 feet long, so it had plenty of opportunity to have undented places. She even managed to drive into one of those huge light poles in large parking lots with the driver's side door. So, the pole was literally inches from her face and she didn't see it. This was in the lot at her church, about noon on Sunday, so it was a familiar location and in broad daylight. We were lucky to give that boat anchor away before gas prices shot up.

Another car she was driving, after a heavy snow, she made a left through the middle of a huge snow pile down the middle of the road. But, of course, buried inside that pile was an almost foot-high median. It bent the frame, set off the air bags, broke the windshield and busted a large chunk out of the transmission housing. That was about $5700 to fix. I wanted to let the insurer total it, but she insisted they fix it as she didn't want to admit she was so careless. We were extremely LUCKY to find a guy who could actually rebuild something like that and do it right. But, it DID take him two MONTHS to put it all back together.

She's rammed people on icy exit ramps. I asked her why she didn't drive slower, as the ice was everywhere. Answer? She was "in a hurry". You just can't argue with logic like that!

Now I have a 22 year-old daughter who drives in some kind of fog. Yes, she's the same one who totaled my previous HCH-II last November, with only 3000 miles on the odometer. She has a passion for running over curbs at 30 MPH. It is amazing that the Corolla she is driving doesn't need $1000+ in suspension parts when she does this. But, I think it is cumulative, and the next time it will probably need frame straightening.

So, we know what you are going through. I know several people who swore off driving for many years because they didn't feel they were competent. I had a girlfriend in college who made a left turn directly in front of a power company line truck, while driving her brother's Corvair! She swore off driving for at least 15 years, until her job required her to start visiting customer sites. Most people don't have the smarts (or whatever you call it) to self-judge themselves.

Take her DL away, or install a breathalyzer ignition lock on the car. When she kills someone, it will be too late to wish you'd done something. No one who wrecks 8 cars in 18 years should be on the roads endangering the rest of us.

It's not an easy situation, nor has Jeff given his wife the blind eye - he's confronted her.

They only drive you crazy if you love them. I'd try to identify contributing factors such as time of day or distractions.

Experience with minor accidents taught me to try to keep my wife off the road first thing in the morning or at night. Her problem tends to be "tunnel vision" where she focuses on one thing and misses everything else:eek:.

Engine and transmisson are being pulled out of the car today. I also found out today my wife curbed the right front wheel and also has backed it into a tree.

    The car is junk!

Better not let my wife see me looking at the Nekkid HCHII pics.:D

The pics make me wonder how you would replace the AC compressor without taking off the front end of the car or an equally large part of the underside of the car. Haven't you talked about upgrading the filter system etc.? Are you planning to take advantage of the HCHII's nakedness (so to speak)?

I will more than likely never drive the car again. It has been ruined IMHO. There is no way in hell it will ever be right. If the wife looses her lic. to drive over this mess it will be parked. I will throw money at the payment book and then sell it when I can get out. I will keep driving my unmolested MZ3.
