Drunk Driving eliminated in our lifetime?

    I'd say that we already keep too many people in the pokey, 30 days would probably do for driving while suspended. I would prefer the deterrent effect of forfeiture of the vehicle used in drunk driving in addition to license suspension of some duration.

    I would also add a class of aggravated drunk driving for people driving while falling down drunk which probably really is worse than talking on the cell phone while driving. Personal observation suggests that police officers (and close relations) sometimes get "professional courtesy" on DUI's and on other traffic violations when injuries are not involved. Law enforcement appears to lack enthusiasm for enforcing traffic laws of all sorts. Having two levels of charge would let cops give their buddies a break without letting them off scott-free.
