[IMG] Scroby Sands offshore wind farm is one the first commercial offshore wind farms in Britain. A new report says the potential for wind and wave power there is immense.

Why not do this to augment oil rigs in the Gulf, too? --Ed.

Britain could become the largest producer of electricity from offshore wind by the end of the next decade, according to the Carbon Trust, a group funded by the British government.

With carefully targeted subsidies and regulations, Britain could build 29 gigawatts of capacity compared to a global total of 66 gigawatts by 2020, giving it 45 percent of the offshore power market, said the Carbon Trust. By comparison, Germany would have 12 gigawatts by 2020, the group said.

The group also noted that a quarter of all wave power technologies are being developed in Britain and that the country “could be the ‘natural owner’ of the global wave power market” this century. ... [rm][/rm]

    Hi Chuck:

___It is almost imperative that they do...

Crude falls below $70 per with gasoline still climbing
___With the inability to supply their own needs and that supply falling off fast in terms of bout output and tax revenue, the Brits are in one huge world of hurt unless they begin their own Electric revolution almost immediately.

    ___Good Luck

You should read the comments attached to this article. One fool says that his " scientist friends" claim that "wind farms will change the rotation of the earth and send it spinning into the sun".No kidding, he claims just that. I don't doubt that there will be some consequences-unexpected maybe- but the earth spinning into the sun isn't one of them. One small mountain range "steals" more wind energy that all the potential wind turbines will ever see.
