At 77.1 per cent, the entry-level subcompact led in trade-ins from other makes from last December through May, says a Power Information Network U.S. study. Second place went to the Hyundai Azera (67.8 per cent), with Toyota's FJ Cruiser third (66.3 per cent). The average for all nameplates was 51.4 per cent. Base prices for 2007 range from $13,725 to $18,695. The five-door '06 tester was a pumpkin-coloured LE, with funky blue-dotted black cloth and a five-speed manual. The $1,650 optional B package (ABS, a/c, power windows, keyless entry) pushed the price to $16,560, plus taxes. THREE STARS The near-one-box shape has visual sizzle and surprising interior room. The 106 hp, 1.5-litre four (the only engine) takes the terror out of pricey fuel. Federal L/100 km ratings: city 6.9, highway 5.5. Rear windows go all the way down THREE STRIKES No side airbags or head curtain bags are available - just the standard pair for driver and passenger. Intermittent speed for front and rear wipers wasn't variable, which proved a drag. The single-disc player didn't give the track number.
