We DO NOT advocate drafting semis - we advocate driving safely outside the "No Zone" The media that has come to CleanMPG has in general been very professional, but sadly other articles have harped on drafting as if it's a common hypermiling practice - this is misinformation. It's a source of great frustration to hypermilers to be depicted as something we are not, while truly dangerous drivers are being glossed over. To benefit from semi drafting, the tractor-trailer would need to be going under 70mph on an open road outside of the large metro areas at a steady speed, and it does not happen often. Truckers are varying their speeds to discourge this. The high price of diesel makes it more likely 18-wheelers may have blowouts, so drafting is more hazardous than ever. Obstructing traffic. We encourage driving in the rightmost lane, pulling over or lane changing to give traffic behind us every opportunity to pass. We do not seek to passively or actively bottleneck traffic.
