Hyundai introduced the all-new IONIQ 5 CUV to U.S. observers. Within the presentation, Hyundai stated the Ioniq 5 is continuing to target 300 miles of all-electric range (AER) despite having just 77.4 kWh of useable Li-Ion traction battery available. The real multiplier here is its best-in-class, ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes while on a 350 kW Electrify America High Speed DCFC CCS charger.

Electrify America’s fast charging network now includes a payment technology called Plug&Charge, which allows electric vehicle owners to begin a charge without reaching for their wallet, smartphone or bank card.

After a brief online registration, drivers can automatically pay for charging by simply by plugging in their EV. The charger communicates with the vehicle to identify, authenticate, authorize and bill the customer’s registered account for the charging session. As a follow on to the Meet the All-new, All-electric 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S back in November of 2019, Porsche is about to release an all-electric but RWD only Taycan. With its front power unit removed, the RWD standard Taycan lost 200 pounds. While EPA range estimates have not yet been provided, it should achieve another 15 to 25-miles range over and above the current 227 mile-range Taycan 4S Performance Battery Plus model. I hope it will arrive with even more.

VW Announces end of the line for the standard everyday Golf in the U.S. market.

Earlier today, VW announced that Golf production for the U.S. market was axed last week. VW expects that the model year 2021 Golf models built at the Puebla, Mexico plant will sustain sales of the affordable, European-designed hatchback through year end. The Golf family name will carry on in model year 2022 with the introduction of the all-new 8th gen Golf GTI and Golf R this Fall.
