Fooled by the SGII!
According to my SGII I only had slightly less than a gallon left in my tank. That'd be enough for 1.5 commute trips. So I decide to fillup. It turns out I still had 1.8 gallons left, just enough to last until the weekend. It told me I was getting 38.4 mpg but I really ended up with 42 mpg. I suppose it's better to overestimate rather than understand consumption like that one time I was on the freeway and ran out of gas because the SGII told me I had enough...

Sorry but i had a nice little laugh out of that
Is your fuel gauge sitting on top of the E if you run it that low?
And isn't it supposed to be bad for the car to run the fuel tank to empty?

Jhu,
SGII is never 100% accurate. Even if you install an offset that makes it accurate, that offset is only accurate *IF* your commute or weather doesn't change.

That's the truth. I've had it be up to 2 mpg underestimating before. That trip was my personal best tank distance-wise.
This past weekend it was underestimating 0.5 mpg coming back from Florida.
Day-to-day it's spot on.

Re: Fooled by the SGII!
I can't use a scangauge for my 92 Metro but this somewhat related to your thread...I believe my odometer is off by 1/10th of a mile.
From mile marker to mile marker my odometer reads 9/10ths and on long trips, distance traveled on the odometer is always less than mapquest's distances, even simple straight line comparisons like gas station A to gas station B on the same freeway.
When I see a sign that says 20 miles to Exit 8 my odometer is never right. I noticed this more on my recent NC to FL trip as I had never taken the convertible on any long trips (+150 miles) before May of this year and only that one time to Kacey's Honda dealership in Columbia SC.
The upside is if I confirm this discrepancy with a GPS I'll be able to adjust my mileage log by a positive 10%!!! But until I can verify I'll keep on logging as the odometer reads. It's like knowing your gonna get a big boost in mileage one day.

I wish the ECU outputed Gallons per hour!
How hard is it for the computer to count each spray and the diration?

Re: Fooled by the SGII!
I'm off-topic, but anyway: my preference is to tank up any time we're below the 1/2 full mark and happen to be going by our station brand. This means slightly more frequent fillup chores, a slightly higher median gas weight being carried, that's about it for the negatives.

Re: Fooled by the SGII!
So now that my SGII is over reporting fuel consumption, I just found out I could have safely gotten 600+ miles on this tank. Oh well. It's better than running out of fuel. Although I suppose I could stash a spare gallon in the trunk...

Re: Fooled by the SGII!
Are you adjusting the fuel amount in the FILLUP menu each time? That seems like a lot of error if you have been correcting.

I think I have the same problem, and I can't believe I'm getting beat so bad in the FE runs when I P&G like crazy!
I won't change it until I verify it's wrong, but I have a hunch that one day I need to change my FE for the better.
